Project Overview
With the growing demand for renewable energy in Africa, an increasing number of Nigerian households are deploying rooftop photovoltaic (PV) systems to cope with grid instability. In this project, UNIDO TRADING LIMITED provided professional design guidance and core electrical protection components for a residential distributed PV combiner box (distribution box) for a customer in Abuja, Nigeria.

The core protection components used in this project are all from the UNIDO TRADING LIMITED PV-specific series, specially designed for harsh DC environments:
| Model | Type | Key Function |
|---|---|---|
| GSP9-C40PV | DC Surge Protective Device (SPD) | MOV+GDT |
| GYPV-32 | PV DC Fuse | Precise short-circuit and overload protection, prevents DC arc fires. |
1.Lightning and Surge Threats
Some areas in Nigeria experience frequent thunderstorms, and rooftop PV panels are highly susceptible to lightning surges. UNIDO TRADING LIMITED’s fast-response SPD effectively neutralizes this fatal threat, avoiding system paralysis and potential electric shock risks to personnel.
2.DC Arc and Fire Hazards
Once generated, DC arcs are extremely difficult to extinguish automatically. The GYPV-32 dedicated DC fuse provides reliable overcurrent isolation, nipping the hidden danger of fires caused by equipment short circuits in the bud.
3.Limited Installation Space
The space inside residential distribution boxes is usually quite compact. UNIDO TRADING LIMITED products feature a standard DIN rail mounting design; the modular structure not only saves space but also makes the on-site connection of red and black DC cables neater and more standardized.
